More about Heterogeneous Vinyl Resilient Sheet Flooring

All heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring is comprised of a vinyl wear layer and a backing (as opposed to homogenous vinyl sheet flooring which does not carry a backing). Depending on the construction of the floor, heterogeneous vinyl flooring may also contain an intermediate core layer, and factory-applied finish. In the US market, the resilient flooring industry delineates differences in flooring construction as outlined in ASTM F-1303, which specifies two thicknesses of wear layer (Type), overall flooring thickness (Grade), and type of backing (Class). However, data on the specific composition of heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring is not currently available in a format parallel with the ASTM standard. Instead, the manufacturers of heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring have issued one common document describing a wide range of products across many ASTM categories. As a result, this CP does not describe a specific ASTM-F1303 compliant flooring, but rather describes the composition of a heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring generally: with an industry-standard polyurethane top coat, and a fiberglass backing. Many floors include post-consumer recycled content but do not identify the nature of this content.
