Description: Phthalates are esters of phthalic acid (CAS RN 88-99-3). Most commonly used as plasticizers for PVC. Also widely used in cosmetics. Because phthalates do not permanently bind chemically with the PVC, they are able to leach from the plastic into fluids that come in contact with them or to attach to dust particles and loft into air.
