Niaz Dorry
Niaz is a veteran activist and writer living in Gloucester, Massachusetts and brings nearly twenty years of organizing and campaigning experience to the Pharos team. She’s the founder of Clean Catch where she works with small-scale, traditional, and indigenous fishing communities in the U.S. and from around the globe to advance the rights and ecological benefits of the small-scale fishing communities as a means of protecting global protect marine biodiversity. Time Magazine named Niaz as a Hero For The Planet for this work.
Jack Geibig
Jack is the Acting Director of the Center for Clean Products and Clean Technologies at the University of Tennessee. Jack has over 15 years of experience focused on the evaluation and promotion of clean materials, products, and processes that restrict the use of toxic materials and reduce system impacts to both human health and the environment. Jack is a leader in the development of environmental product and material standards, materials-based research, and other tools and approaches leading to sustainable material and product systems. Jack currently serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Cleaner Production, and is a guest lecturer on sustainable materials and green engineering at UT. Jack holds degrees in both chemical and environmental engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
Tom Lent
Tom has over twenty five years of experience working on energy and environmental issues in both the non-profit and private sectors. Tom works closely with large volume commercial consumers and product manufacturers to develop green procurement guidelines. He co-coordinated the development of the Green Guidelines for Healthcare Construction (GGHC) and is the principal author of HBN's materials databases and technical analyses.
Jason F. McLennan
Jason serves as the CEO of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council, the Pacific Northwest's leading organization in the field of green building and sustainable development. Cascadia is a chapter of both the US and Canadian Green Building Council's. Jason is known as an international thought leader in the green architecture movement and has lectured on sustainability across the US and Canada. His work in the Sustainable Design Field has been published in multiple journals, magazines, conference proceedings and books. He is the author of three books: The Philosophy of Sustainable Design, The Dumb Architect's Guide to Glazing Selection and the Ecological Engineer. The Philosophy of Sustainable Design is currently used as a textbook in over 30 universities and is distributed widely throughout Europe and North America. He is a former Principal at BNIM Architects, one of the founders of the green design movement in the United States, where he worked on many of the leading high performance projects in the country including Platinum, Gold and zero energy projects. Jason was recently named one of the top 40 under 40 most influential individuals in the design and construction field by Building Design and Construction Magazine.
Julie Silas
Julie is a lawyer with more than fifteen years experience in health and environmental advocacy. Before joining Healthy Building Network, she was Program Director for San Francisco Bay Area Physicians for Social Responsibility and co-chair of Health Care Without Harm’s Safer Materials workgroup, partnering with health care Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), manufacturers, health systems, individual institutions, and health care practitioners to promote more environmentally responsible practices within the health care system. Ms. Silas's written work has been published and distributed in journals and magazines, as well as to community-based organizations throughout the country.
Bill Walsh
Bill is a lawyer with over twenty years experience working with public interest organizations. In 2000 he founded HBN in an effort to build networks of non-traditional allies dedicated to accelerating the transformation of the mutli-billion dollar building and materials market toward healthier materials.
